cLARKSVILLE UNVEILS ROSIE THE RIVETER ART INSTALLATION
The City of Clarksville and the Clarksville Historic Preservation Commission unveiled on Friday, September 16th, a riverfront monument to honor Rosie the Riveter, a World War II icon along, the Ohio River at Ashland Park.
Did you know that Rosie the Riveter was a Clarksville native? Rose Will Monroe, who was born in Kentucky and spent her post-war life in Clarksville, became a face for the character after she appeared in a film to promote war bonds. Rosie found employment as a riveter at a Michigan factory that produced parts for the B24 bomber during World War II. She was a fiercely independent women who owned a construction company and had a pilot’s license.
This new art installation is just down the block from Bolt + Tie along Riverside Drive towards the south of the building. The next time you make your way over to the park, snap a picture with Rosie and tag us on social media to celebrate this icon woman.
